On January 23 and 24, 2023, the Central America and Caribbean Regional Farmers’ Forum will be held with the participation of representatives of organizations and social movements of Peasant and Indigenous Family Farming (PIFF) and Artisanal Fisheries (AF), professionals from the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and other guests from the region.
The Conference aims to achieve results on 5 issues: (i) Discussion on the current and future status of the partnership between IFAD and farmers’ organizations, with a view to making it more effective at the national and regional levels; (ii) Identification of existing (or absent) public policies for PIFF and, which connect with the 2030 Agenda; iii) Recommendations to IFAD to improve the quality of the design and execution of its credit and grant operations in the region, whether they are executed through governments or directly with Peasant and Indigenous Family Farming Organizations (PIFFOs), as a way of increasing the impact on its target population; iv) Recommendations for improving the coordination of the agencies operating in the subregion in support of PIFF and AF organizations, for the implementation of the Plan of Action of the Decade of Family Farming and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); v) New mechanisms for action by PIFFOs to improve their performance as intermediaries between the rural population, governments, IFAD and other agencies operating in the region in support of the sector.
