VIII Congress of the Latin American Coordination of Rural Organizations CLOC-Via Campesina
The Latin American Coordination of Rural Organizations CLOC/La Vía Campesina is a network of 87 social organizations in 20 Latin American countries, representing nearly 50 million rural people, indigenous peoples, Afro-descendants, and artisanal fishers.
CLOC, which is organized into three regions: the Caribbean, Central America, and South America, is convening its VIII Continental Congress, to be held in Mexico from December 1 to 10, 2025. We are mobilizing to Mexico, a country with a rich cultural heritage and the base of a great 20th century social movement, with a delegation of 500 militants from peasant struggles across the continent, to accompany today’s Mexico, to stand in solidarity with its people and its government of transformation, which also is facing the consequences of the declining hegemony of the US empire.
At this VIII Congress, our agenda is:
- To reaffirm the role of peasants in building food sovereignty for the production of healthy, nutritious food that is available and accessible to all populations around the world.
- To highlight what is our peasant agriculture, with agroecological practices that are in harmony with Mother Earth, preserve ancestral knowledge, and cool the planet.
- To denounce that historically our peasant agriculture has resisted and persisted in the face of the technical and technological development of market agriculture promoted by large agro-industrial corporations that feed their own financial capital and exacerbate the climate crisis on the planet.
Prior to the VIII Congress, the I CLOC Continental Diversities Assembly, the VI CLOC Continental Youth Assembly, and the VII CLOC Continental Women’s Assembly will be held.
Finally, we wish to express that, in our struggle, we contribute to the processes of emancipation of the working class, for socialism, for the sovereignty of our peoples, walking alongside the youth of the countryside and the city; building popular peasant feminism, confronting patriarchal practices, fighting against imperialism and capitalism for the emancipation and self-determination of peoples to choose their own destiny.
We come together to strengthen our unity and deepen our collective strategies to face challenges, because we, the peoples, do not surrender in the face of adversity; we rebel, we resist, and we overcome.
